Rinse and soak the rice

For the first step of cooking pilaf, Put the rice in a strainer, and rinse it thoroughly under cool water. Repeat it several times until the water is pretty clear. Then place the rice in a bowl, and pour water on it till the water covers the rice. Let it rest for about 20 to 30 minutes.

Toast the rice

After this period, add olive oil or butter to a large pan on medium heat. When the oil is hot enough, add rice without its water. Cook it for about 5-7 minutes until it turns bright white and flavorful. Do not forget to stir the rice frequently.

Cook the onion

In another pan, warm the olive oil or butter on medium heat, and then add diced onions. Cook the onion until it gets soft and the color is close to golden.

Simmer the broth

Set a medium saucepan on medium-high heat and add chicken broth, salt, garlic powder, and black pepper. Wait until the mixture starts to simmer. Then reduce the heat. After some minutes, turn off the heat.

Combine and cook

Now it is time to mix all you have prepared before. Add the rice, onions, and broth mixture to a large skillet and stir well to combine. Put the skillet on high heat and let it simmer. When the water starts to boil, reduce the heat, cover the skillet and let the mixture cook for about 15 to 20 minutes. Then add some fresh chopped parsley and cook it for 5 minutes more.
